After nine years of filling the audience with laughter, Jimmy Kimmel's revered Uncle Frank Potenza, a frequent guest comedian on his nephew's show, passed away early this morning (August 23).
Showing his gratitude for the unrelenting support he's received from his fans, Jimmy tweeted, "thank you for your kind words about a very kind man - my Uncle Frank - who passed away this morning."
The talk show - on hiatus until September 6 - also released statement in regards to the sad news, telling press, "During his nine-year run on-air, 'Uncle Frank' contributed many great moments to 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!.' He was beloved by his co-workers and considered an Uncle to all. His kindness and humor will be missed by everyone he touched."
Prior to his appearances on the late night program, the 77-year-old served as a New York City police officer as well as a security guard at Ceasar's Palace in Las Vegas.
